National
Fire Safety Council (NFSC) developed Firepup, a friendly dalmation
cartoon character, in an effort to make learning about fire issues
fun, entertaining and non-threatening.
Firepup
is a friendly and positive role model for children used successfully
as a learning tool used by firefighters and teachers across the
country.
Firepup
fire tips appear on folders, stickers, and posters. Firepup also
appears in many of NFSC's educational materials including a yearly
24 page fire manual of games and puzzles that help explain fire
topics such as arson, kitchen fire safety, and stop, drop, and roll.
Each manual also contains a lesson guide for firefighters and teachers
to follow.
Firepup's
image is portrayed by a cuddly hand-held puppet and a life-sized
costumed character. The character is treated as an auxiliary firefighter
by many fire departments.
